From telling the stories of dozens of World War II veterans to exposing problems in the criminal justice system, Cody McDevitt has written and reported on a range of topics. His first book, Pittsburgh Drinks: A History of Cocktails, Nightlife and Bartending Tradition, was met with critical acclaim within the city’s journalistic establishment. His second book, Banished from Johnstown: Racist Backlash in Pennsylvania, grew out of the nationally-followed Rosedale Oral History Project, a concerted effort to track down descendants of people who were forced out of any community based on race, religion or on any other identifying characteristic.
